Guido Depoorter – retired – First Belgian Patinist
Naturally, I’m delighted with the evolution of the sail sleigh sport at the Flemish coast as the number of jovial enthusiasts is ever increasing. You are a model elite: in spite of variety of natures, you practise a sport forming the mind and the body in a cordial, playful and healthy competitive way. The conditions to do so are also extremely favourable: the meeting of active people in a highly adequate “infrastructure”: the beach, the sea, the wind – and the Patin, that is adapted in an ideal way. Enjoy it with many friends during many, many years!

It takes two to tango. That goes for Patin sailing too. Indeed, you do not sail alone: you and your boat together have to anticipate the wind, the currents and the waves. And after 10 years of multi-hull this meant a change in my “mindset” as sailor. The boat appears to be simple, but you cannot fathom it just like that. The boat and the sailor have to look together for the ideal combined action. A captivating search, as far as I’m concerned. Add to all of this the sporting atmosphere on the water and the enjoyable ambiance on the beach and the hobby is complete. If only I had more time to practise it …uit programma Eur. Kamp

Hans Dejonckheere – 39 years old – entrepreneur and Patin importer
Patin n° 2963 - Marinero
I’m a fish, but especially a water man. Water is a need in my way of life.
And the sea…, it gives me the freedom of water.
Together with, just above the sea, the air, endless and weightless, which becomes powerful with the wind. As the sea, the air and the wind play together and fuse, so I become one with my Patin, and feel the softness of the water around me, the strength of the waves, the airstream along my skin and the speed of the wind that pushes me on.
In such a way that I even become weightless as my Patin glides over water and air, along with the wind.
And then, I didn’t tell you anything yet on the friendship among kindred Patinists to share that intense passion….That’s Patinlife.

Jürgen Van Cauwenberge - - 46 years old - Captain in the merchant navy, pilot
Patin n° 2885 – Orange Rover
After having sailed number of leeboard boats and other catamarans, I put the helm over, even threw it away completely and I now enjoy myself to my hearts’ content when sailing my elegant Patin. In spite of everything, this is often accompanied by a heavy curse, as it is a real challenge to learn how to sail this rudderless, simply rigged Patin and to get acquainted with all of its strange quirks. Therefore, it took years to build a good relationship with this whimsical boat, and it will take many more years before we will fully understand one another. If we add our local ingredient to this all, that is to say North Sea conditions (extremely variable wind, waves and currents), we get a marvellous cocktail with an ever-changing character… in short, Patin sailing is a fascinating never ending story….

Patin n° 2675 – Q-l’eau
The little sailing experience I have (windsurfing, dart, 43/47-footer) is not that bad a basis to ventilate a thorough finding on the PATIN.
The trim possibilities on the Patin are immense, although it only has 6 lines and 1 mainsheet. This makes that the lesser gods (among which me) now and then make a good impression during a regatta. Completely by accident and averse from all Patin knowledge. The day that I will fully understand that boat and that I have complete control over it, I know that I will make many mainsail trimmers blush. Really outstanding, those Patins.

Patin n° 2652 – El Fanatico
Sails a Patin since 2002 – For me, Patin sailing means de-stressing.
Johan Kindt – 47 years old
Patin N° 2686 – Lac d’Ifni
The Patin seems to be a simple barge with a simple sail; but the performances of its sailors are high school performances: they pilot the Patins without rudders, minutely from one buoy to the other. Pure sailing, pure sports, “mens sana”.

Patin n° 2877 - Twiedekker
The Patin fascinates every one who sees it. The finishing – the simplicity of the shapes and the materials used – the light sail – only a mainsheet to sail the boat. The fascination turns into admiration when one sees the Patin sailing: sliding elegantly, one hull slightly lifted, with a slanting mast and a belly sail. But only those who actually sail the Patin really experience the ecstasies: man and boat together in perfect balance, leaving behind two small trails in the wake. If you can share all this with the compañeros, during a regatta or a training session under perfect conditions, you are really a very happy man.

Herwig Vanbesien – 47 years old – bank manager
Patin n° 2810 – Ad Fundum
A Patin is so much more than just the boat. As one-time non-sailor, it was a revelation; the intensity of sailing makes me forget all stress and pressure. Buying a Patin not only means that you become the owner of a sailing boat, it especially means companionship, fellowship, events, contests, a new life … .
The direct contact with the sea is so much more intensive than when strolling along the water line. Sailing under the setting sun, a sea-gull going into a nose dive beside your Patin, or an encounter with sea hogs…. Patin sailing never leaves you untouched.

Patin n° 2876 - Noordzeecat
I remember how we used to play hide-and-seek under the wooden Patins lying on the beach in the former sailing club ‘Haantje Vooruit’ at De Haan. Sailing in general and the Patin in particular has always been a real outlet for me. The immense sea, the ever-changing setting, the contact with the water, the physical effort and the many friends make sailing on this sportive one-person catamaran an exceptional adventure. Experiencing intense regattas on the water gives me a wonderful feeling. What is more beautiful than seeing sailing boats racing over the sea?
