The patin finds its origin in a float that was used in upright position with a long paddle to encompany swimmers at sea in Barcelona. Later a mast and a sail were set, but the rudder has always been omitted.
A variant was ever made with oars. Recently this was recreated. With the same features as the patin but without mast and sail.
This should be tested on the North Sea !

L’origine du patin était en position verticale avec une longue rame, accompagner les nageurs en mer à Barcelone. Plus tard, un mât et une voile ont été ajoutées, mais le gouvernail a toujours manqué.
Une variante à rames n’a jamais été faite. Récemment, ce fut recréé. Avec les mêmes caractéristiques que le patin mais sans mât et voile.
Cela doit être testé sur la mer du Nord!

De oorsprong van de patin was om rechtopstaand met een peddel zwemmers te begeleiden op zee in Barcelona.
Later werd daar een mast en zeil op geplaatst, maar het roer bleef achterwege.
Een variant werd ooit gemaakt met roeispanen. Deze werd recent nagemaakt.
Met dezelfde eigenschappen als de patin maar dan zonder mast en zeil
Moet nog eens uitgetest worden op de Noordzee !
